E-tourism or no tourism at all? October 3, 2020
After thirty-five years of the Internet and almost twenty years of constant and rapid transformations in almost all fields due to and because of the Internet, we attempt a brief and unpretentious analysis of the influences of www in the lives of tourists and professionals.
More than fifteen years ago, the specialists of the World Tourism Organization had concluded that the communication technology represented by the Internet had the greatest impact in the history of tourism, along with television (which, after all, is also a communication technology).
Although we are informed that “e” numbers are not quite indicated in the food field, in tourism it seems that ingredients such as e-information, e-booking, e-payment, together “e-tourism” delight consumers.
This development of communication, which has become easy, fast and efficient, has also changed the habits in tourism in a seemingly irreversible way. Today we find in e-booking holiday houses, holiday homes, bungalows, not just hotel chains.
In addition to the advice received from friends, relatives, colleagues or neighbours, the final decision by which to choose the holiday home for next summer is made after asking Mr. Google.
It is not difficult to understand why this information network has managed to influence tourism in this way. Speed, i.e. time savings, and comfort. Sitting comfortably in an armchair, the modern man sees exactly what the holiday home or bungalow in which he will spend his next vacation will look like.
And we ask ourselves: is this tourism? Yes. E-tourism...
Have a pleasant holiday!
